Presidential Persuasion Freebie

Happy Monday!  Wow – what a day!  Storm Sandy has left me exhausted – my kids were wild today!!  Of course, that could be the moon too!  I just hope my friends closer to the east coast and the storm stay safe.  It’s a great time to cuddle up under the blanket with a good book (or your laptop) and have a cup of coffee or cocoa.

In honor of Sandy, I’m posting an election freebie! This is a great graphic organizer for students to use to convince you why they would make a great president!
Check out my TpT store for other great election resources!

Clipart Obsession

Yes, once I begin a project or start something new I obsess! It becomes my whole life – my husband jokes (or at least I think he’s joking) that I forget about everything else!!  Besides my family of course!
Second Grade Math Maniac is feeding my obsession – thank you!!! Right now I am obsessed with clip art. I love it! I simply can’t get enough! I use it everywhere – cute posters in my classroom, directions on the Smartboard, my newsletters, anything that I can be printed or read I want to “fancy up” with cute clipart and fonts! A few of my current favorites are…

Dropping like Flies and Giveaways!

My students dropped like flies today! Seriously! I started the day with 20 students, by lunch I was down to 17, and by the end of the day 15! Most of you probably already know what happened….yes, STREP THROAT!! Ugh!

By the time I left my room, I had scrubbed and cleaned everything I could!!! I am not getting sick – I’m just not doing it! I don’t have the time or energy to waste! Nope, not doing it!

I can hardly remember what we did in class today because every time I turned around one of my babies was leaving! On a positive note, my kids LOVED watching I’m Just a Bill today. They were so excited and amazed to know that the President doesn’t make all the laws and that there are other people making decisions in the government. Yayyy!!! Hopefully they shared something new at home tonight – I love when they go home and tell their parents a new fact they learned. It makes them feel so important and successful.

On another great note – one of my bloggy friends is having a HUGE giveaway! Erin over at Tales from Room 112, is having a 200 follower giveaway!! She has over 50 products available! Ah-mazing!! And with 123 ways to enter she makes it SUPER easy!! Head over to her site and check out all of the great items she has.

Happy Tuesday my friends!

My Week in Pictures and a Linky too!

Wow – my kiddos and I have been super busy this week.  Although I don’t have time to blog all of the details, here is a sneak peak of what we’ve been up to!

We made these super cute owls to go with our writing project!!  They turned out adorable. These two are a little girly with pretty necklaces and ribbons!! LOVE!!

Students responded to poetry this week....students read about the sounds of fall.  I loved it!!  "The leaves go snack crackle pop!"  Hahahaha!!  Sooo cute!!!!
Our floor was a mess when I left today! Even though we spent 5 minutes cleaning up the floor we couldn't get it all - and you know, some of my students put more effort into it than others.  The picture really doesn't do it justice....the floor was a MESS!!  It looked like we had shredded construction paper and just tossed it around.  Well worth it though because our owls and spiders turned out fabulous!!!
Here is what our cubby area looked like when I left...and yes, I left the mess!  We'll clean it up tomorrow and start our Friday fresh and ready!

I also took a few seconds tonight to link up with Peacocks and Penguins rubric linky party today!  I LOVE working with rubrics!!  It makes breaking down the task for students easier and makes sure they understand everything that must be done to complete the assignment.  It also makes it that much easier to grade.
Here is a link to a free writers notebook evaluation rubric at my TpT store and the link to Peacocks and Penguins linky party!
Happy Thursday!

Spiders, Owls & Bats - Oh My!!

I am so exctied that my students are finishing their spider research projects this week!  It went so much better than last year.  One of the reasons why is the way we kept our notes organized this year!!

Last year in writing we kept notes, but did not organize them well, and when it was time to write reports my kids really strugged to put the information in order - guess you learn!  Sooo... this year we've taken more time and I taught them how to use a very structured graphic organizer to keep notes. My kiddos LOVE it - happy kids means a happy teacher.

Here is what our graphic organizer looks like:

They don't know it yet, but we are focusing on "nocurnal" animals next and will be studying owls.  Now that I've taught my students how to use this organizer I created one for owls too!  Hopefully this report they can do with a little less modeling.  And, although we don't do Halloween at our school, I've found that fall animals are a great way to discuss autumn and seasonal changes.  Of course, after all this writing, we'll have to publish and have a celebration...just in time for, you guessed it! - Halloween.  Yes, crafty teacher!!  Ha!

So You Want to be President Mini-Unit

I am so excited about everything that I accomplished yesterday.  I have so many checkmarks on my "to do" list, but still so much more to finish!  I am in the process of updating all of my TPT products and it has been a long process.  Some items have been!...and I have added a lot of graphics and "cute" stuff to my other products.

But, in between, I have been working on some of my larger projects. In time for the election season I finally finished the "So You Think You Want to be President" mini unit to go along with the book. I read this to my students every year and they LOVE it, so I am so glad that I have activities to go along with it now. They can apply what they learn - and their parents will be thrilled abou the "facts" they bring home!!

Here is a quick peek....but go to my TPT store to check it out in full....I hope you're just as excited about it!!

I've also linked this product to Tales from Room 112 who is throwing a linky party for your favorite election materials.  Make sure you stop at her blog to find some great materials.  You know I can't pass up a linky party - two this weekend!

Now, back to reality...lesson planning, laundry, and grocery shopping.  Ahhh the life of a glamorous teacher!!

You've Been Boo'd Party

While watching Big Ten football today, I decided to take a quick break and do some spying reading at other teacher’s blogs about what they’re doing in their classrooms.  While reading I found a great party!!

Cynthia at Welcome to the 2nd Grade Pad is having a "You've Been Boo'd Party!"  Well, you know, I can't pass by a party without stopping by!

Here's how to play...

1.  Choose 3 fellow bloggers - one that has MORE followers, another that has about the SAME number of followers, and last, somone that has LESS followers.

2.  Highlight their blogs with links to encourage others to check them out.  Don't forget to let your fellow bloggers know what you shared about them.

3.  Finally, leave them a comment on their blog showing some love by offering them a goody from your store as their treat.

Here are my favorites...head over and check out their blogs!!

This is one of my favorite "new blogs."  Mountain View Teaching's design is Ah-mazing!!  A girl after my own heart - a polka-dot fan!  She also has great TPT task cards - make sure you check them out!!

Relax with a Great Book

Relax with a Great Book looks like a great new blog and one that I am so excited to be following!  Like me, she's new to the blogging world so follow her soon and travel along on her new blogging adventure!

I don't have enough words to explain to you my LOVE of The 3AM Teacher!!  She has adorable clip art and borders - yes, I am a hoarder so I own a TON of her stuff!!  Make sure you pop in to her TPT store and take a look at all her goodies!!
Now it's your turn.  Pass on the BOO to 3 of your favorite blogs, tell us about them, and link up!  But make sure you do it before October 31st or you'll be left behind the ghosts and surrounded by turkeys!!

My Week with a Fantastic Fieldtrip and a Cinderella Conclusion

What a busy week – I am so glad it is over…although, I have another busy one coming up!  It’s true – the older you get the faster time flies!  Guess that means I’m getting older quicker and that is a scary thought!

I did have a chance to click tons of pics in my classroom this week.  And on a great fieldtrip to the IMAX movie theater.  We saw Forces of Nature on the big screen.  My students LOVED it…and so did I, of course!  It was a nice, quick trip – on the bus, off the bus, restrooms and water fountains, movie, on the bus, off the bus.  Perfect – no need to count heads or regroup!
And, Friday, well it was a “day off”.  You know you’ve got a tough group when you look forward to a root canal so you can have a break!  It did give me plenty of time to finish my Cinderella Unit!  I am so happy with the way it turned out and can’t wait to use it with my students.  Here is a preview…

And, of course, you can find it on TPT.

So long for now…I have tons of planning, Saturday football to watch, and of course, my weekly grocery run!

Just Let Me Rant!

I am SUPER Ex-cited today!  I joined another linky party!  That’s right; you know I am a sucker for parties!  Thanks to…
here is what I’m up to!

Please head over to her site and let me know what you're up to!
I have actually had a busy weekend – besides just sitting on the couch watching football! Ha!  I’ve been working on more math plans – by the end of the year my kids are going to be math whizzes!

And, I am working on a Cinderella project.  It’s not quite done, but I’m getting there.  Yesterday, I posted new “stuff” in my store…for Columbus Day.  Head over and catch a glimpse.
This week’s main focus has been getting my kids to improve their Daily 5 stamina and independence.  It has been tough – really…my group last year got it quickly, but this year I seem to have every ADHD kid in the building and they just can’t sit still.

I’m like a broken record, “Please, get off the wall, put your headphones on and listen to reading.” “No, your job is not to worry about what they are doing, rule 6” as I point to my nose, “just get your book box and do your job.”  These are just two of the phrases you will hear when you enter my classroom during our literacy block!  Ugh…yes, lots of wine, that is the solution!
Happy Sunday all!
